Being young and in a new neighborhood, Kalayla has to deal with adapting to the new environment and her mother always being busy with her jobs. What happens when she meets the old lady and in black and what are Lena's secrets? A lie once told, how will Kalayla react when she discovers her mother's lies about her grandparents? What type of friendships do Maureen and Lena have? Will they stick with them or will they leave? The story put me on edge wanting to know what would happen next and why it happens.

Kalayla is a story full of sarcasm and great plot twists. You never know what is going to happen next or what happened in the past until you read the whole book.Jeannie has a way with words and is able to bring out the characters in a great way. The story has a great flow of events.

At some point the little girl is sacarstic and to some extent rude to elders but other than that the book is great. It is full of humor which makes it more entertaining and use of simple language that is easily understandable.

The book is well written and edited thus justifying my 4 out of 4 stars rating. There were no errors in the book which made the reading experience smoother and better.

This book is a good read for all readers who are interested in a great story with flow, sarcasm, mystery and unexpected plot twists. I would recommend it to teens and older people.
