Review of A Bloody Book
There are many different ways a book can make you feel. It can be joyous, emotional, angry, fearful, or all at once. There is less number of books that can make you feel all the emotions at once. A Bloody Book by Christ Bowen is one such book that feels like you’re on a rollercoaster of emotions.
The book starts with a disclaimer. The disclaimer helped me to keep going even at times when it got boring as the author clearly states in the disclaimer that it might but one has to just keep going to get to the twist. To be honest, the disclaimer was quite funny and serious at the same time. The warnings provided in the disclaimer were mentioned in such a funny manner that it was difficult to take the warnings seriously, but as the book descends to the later stages you will understand that every word in the disclaimer was meant to be taken seriously.
The book begins with the author being young, attending school, and learning how to read and write. For the first half of the book, the author mentions different aspects of his life. He mentions his family, how he grew up in poverty, and his abusive father but mostly about his school life and teachers. The time when I was reading this part of the book, I could not understand the motto of the author. It was the part of the story which while reading seemed inconclusive, but it was not. It was the part of something bigger in the story. These childhood stories of the author helped us to justify his upbringing and the different point of view that the author had of the world as a child.
Apart from this, the relationship between the author and her two-year-old sister is expressed beautifully. The author took care of her sister as a mother. He was concerned about her safety and her upbringing. He made sure that her sister didn’t have to go through what he went through with his abusive parents. He used to bathe her, change her, cook for her, and most importantly, tried to make her smile and happy. This relationship in the book made my heart warm.
Honestly, there is nothing in the book that I did not like. The only thing that I would like to mention is that this book has extremely occasional use of expletive words.
I would rate this book a 4 out of 4 stars for the reasons stated above. This book is professionally edited and I did not find any kind of typos or errors while reading this book. I would like to suggest this book to people who like to read comedy thrillers. I would also suggest this book to people who are above 16 years cause as the title says; it is a bloody book.
