This book is full of sound and sensible advice. The author, Doctor Tavel, has gone to great lengths to explain and emphasize his opinion on medical myths and tricks. He also includes detailed explanations, and references reputable sources, to support his point of view. This book is named Health Tips, Myths, And Tricks, and written by Doctor Morton E. Tavel, a retired physician, with many years of experience in managing patients, as well as teaching at Indiana University School of Medicine, among other qualifications.

Doctor Tavel discusses things that we would typically hear in the media, from colleagues, or while visiting with friends or family. He discusses the validity of claims about certain foods, herbs, and supplements, that cure, heal or promote the improvement of certain medical conditions, or even magically cure ailments that plague countless members of society. Doctor Tavel tries in all earnest to make the general public aware that toting of gimmicks and propagating of myths are far more prevalent than we think, and therefore if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Doctor Tavel, emphasizes continually that medical and scientific proof should be used to back up any beneficial medical claims, and in the absence of such proof, the claims should be taken with a pinch of salt.
Furthermore, this book discusses arsenic in rice, which I was surprised to learn about! Information on breakfast-eating, rapid vs gradual diets, organic foods, bottled water, and a variety of other topics of interest, far too many to mention here.

It is not the type of book that one would read and not be able to put down, but it is an interesting book, nonetheless. I feel l have gained profound knowledge from reading this book. This knowledge l can use for my benefit, and the benefit of others, for the rest of my life. My rating for this book is 3 out of 4 stars. I encountered missing words here and there, evidence of copyediting, an instance of missing content, and some formatting issues. These small issues do not adversely affect the content of this book, but it needs mentioning.

Readers interested in dispelling or proving quick health tips can benefit from reading this book. Even if the exact tips you are researching, are not in this book, Doctor Tavel provides excellent measures by which to judge health tips. He also provides resources, which are available online, to investigate on your own. I feel confident to recommend this book to anyone concerned about healthy living.
