Dan “Tito” Davis’ life as a fugitive is happening, adventurous, distressing, and intriguing. His life is full of ups and downs. His run from America leaving everything behind is such an anguished situation. He is still hopeful and optimistic about life at level zero. The book is about Tito’s life as a fugitive, his mental toll, his endeavours, and his troubles. This is about him struggling and staying happy wherever he can.

Peter Conti as a writer has presented a smooth flowing read. The writing is so realistic, that we as readers have a feeling of moving along with Tito. His details on the places, habits, culture, and people are admirable. The author has successfully brought out an interesting memoir that can’t be seen in usual memoirs. Being acquainted with the mafia, drug dealers, guerrillas, and kidnappers is not something that many people can do. Staying far away from drugs, and never ever having any interaction with them is the only recommendation anybody can give and take. As readers, Tito and his acquaintances' actions and status may not be admirable or honourable. The book is about his fall and rise. It is such a desperate story. At the same time, it gives us hope. It makes us believe that this will also pass. His optimism is contagious. He is blessed with many loving and supporting people as much as he is cheated by the most unexpected people.

As a fugitive, he is taking us to places, different cultures, and unbelievable circumstances in which people live. There is love, heartbreak, success, failure, and almost every emotion. There was a load of cultural info in the book which I loved. It felt like as readers we were experiencing along with him.
The book had a rushed ending which did not go well with me. Even though the book was entirely on the fugitive phase of his life, I would have preferred the ending to be a bit more detailed and filled the gaps that I feel right now.

I would rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. Gringo: My Life On The Edge As An International Fugitive by Dan “Tito” Davis with Peter Conti is recommended to people who would want to know what it is to run as a fugitive – emotionally and physically. There can’t be a better native of Tito’s fugitive life. This is a quick, emotional, thrilling, and motivating read.
