Slater Barnes, a fresh graduate from medical school is confused. A few days ago, he learnt that his girlfriend, Sofia, had messed up with his internship plans and he has very limited time to find an alternative before the deadline. So, he goes drinking which leaves him in the hospital for days where he finds out he has a brain aneurysm. His life seems to be chaotic with the recent heartbreak he is suffering from. His alcohol addiction, the brain aneurysm and his attempt to figure out the next steps in his career all contribute to the chaos in his life.
Eventually, he starts his internship at Boston City Hospital, fondly called 'City' by the workers. City is a public facility famous for its extremely committed staff as well as its long-standing but dilapidated buildings. The current Mayor, out of love for the hospital begins a renovation campaign. However, Academy Hospital, a next door private facility feels threatened by this development. And while the Mayor was making his plans to rebuild, a group of people were planning a sabotage to take over the new building for Academy Hospital.
A series of events will unfold in the fight for City. When the leader of City's resistance group dies, Slater finds himself thrown into the middle of the struggle to save Boston City Hospital from doom. Everything keeps you glued to your seat, making you wonder how it's all going to end and what price Slater will have to pay for his struggles.

I like RJ Petrella's Days of the Giants because it has a fair amount of suspense and surprises. The three narrators of the story (Slater, his mother and his late father) told the story in a very seamless fashion. Despite the setting being in a hospital, there is a very small amount of medical jargon which makes it easy to read for people with limited medical vocabulary.

There isn't really anything to dislike about Days of the Giants. However, it contains a good deal of profane language. Overall, it is a nicely told story with an easy, conversational tone. I like how everything played out in the end. The book doesn't appear to have been professionally edited though. Hence, I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars.

Due to the amount of profane language and sexual content, I wouldn't recommend it to younger audience. Asides this group of people, anyone can read Days of the Giants.
