Review of A Dream For Peace
A Dream For Peace is a memoir written by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah. The book covers his experiences in politics, both in America and Africa, and details how they have shaped his political views. Dr. Berrah's political journey passed through his tenured professorial commitment at Yale University, after which he got caught up in his mission to support Africa's development. He hoped to influence conditions that would allow African countries to excel independently among the concerts of nations. The author did a good foundational job of giving background details of his coming of age, family, and relationships. Readers will be intrigued by the weight of success achieved by him when measured against the opportunities he had growing up. Every phase of his life is recognized here, such that readers are engaged throughout his process of 'dreaming for peace'.
This book has a volume of over 600 pages divided into 17 interesting chapters. Although it makes a very long read, I was practically glued to the pages the whole time. The art of story-telling expressed here is quite captivating. Also, the book is well-formatted to catch the reader's attention. I read it in just a few sittings.
What I like most about this book is that the author did his homework very well. This is perceived in how he raised political issues from the past, analyzed them using the prevailing political circumstances, and gave possible future occurrences. This could only be achieved by someone who had sat down to study before putting out a book. I also like that the assertions in the book are authentic and reliable. Readers could see so many pictures littered all over the pages of the book. These are pictures of meetings or events discussed in the book. A glance at those pictures dealt with every iota of doubt that rose in my mind concerning sensitive matters.
Discussions about religion and politics are the major highlights of this book. One of the things I quickly picked was that there is still a possibility of peaceful coexistence of Christianity and Islam, only if, according to the author, all humans love one another as they love themselves and do unto others as one would do to oneself. I pondered on these for a while, and it is safe to say that these are great lessons to take home from here.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I cannot deduct a star because I perceived the book is professionally edited; I found only one error. Also, there is a complete absence of profanity and sexual scenes that could irritate sensitive readers. I recommend this book to everyone who loves politics and religion; this book might be the one to answer some important questions that bother the subjects.
