Review of Chasing The Red Queen
First thing first – ‘I love this book’.
Chasing the Red Queen is a novel written by Karen Glista. It is a supernatural fantasy novel filled with romance, drama, and gothic elements. The story is delivered from the third person point of view and has a catchy storyline that keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Chasing the Red Queen is a story about a 17 years old girl, Donja Bellangar, who is into gothic style. She is unable to recover from the death of her father. So, she starts hiding her loneliness and troubles with the help of goth-makeup. Her life turned topsy-turvy after her mother remarries a guy named Carson Hampton.
Unaware of the fact that young girls are getting killed in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, the family moves to Michigan. Donja is compelled to move away from her close friends and live with her step-father at their new home. Her miseries do not end, and she is bound to share a room with her step-sister, who she believes does not like her. Will this be the end of her bad luck, or does life holds more miseries for her?
Torin Macini, an Ontario Soo detective, is also an Iridescent whose existence is hidden. He is in charge of a female murder case. His investigation leads him to a rogue Iridescent who rapes and kills young females for fun. While on the investigation he crosses paths with Donja and is attracted to her blood. What the future holds for them both? Will they end up together or not? Read the book to find out.
The best thing about the novel is the length of the chapters; they are of reasonable size, neither too short nor too long, and perfect for readers who do not like long chapters. The sceneries are detailed and help us to visualize every scene precisely. I also love the idea of the Iridescents a.k.a VAMPIRES. The Iridescents in this novel is not like the traditional vampires we all are aware of since time immemorial. They are not scared of garlic or sunlight and work in the day and sleep at night, just like any human being. I also loved the character of Donja since it was very realistic and relatable.
The things I did not like about this novel are the typos; they were disturbing the flow of my reading that I do not appreciate. There was also a mistake with the name of the main character Torin. The romance of the main characters felt more like lust than love.
This book deserves 4 stars for its catchy storyline. But, the errors were disturbing the flow of my reading. So, I reward this book with 3 out of 4 stars.
I would recommend this book to readers who love vampire stories. This novel is definitely for you.
It is not a children’s book. So, I advise children under the age of 14 not to read it as it contains profanities, violence, and sexual scenes.
