Is time travel possible? Can a person somehow bend time and relive the life they always wanted to? These are some of the questions that are yet to be answered by the greatest minds of the universe.

The Watchmaker’s Doctor by G.M.T Schuilling is a book that follows a similar line of time travel. This book follows the life of a 35-year-old person named Anaya. She is a doctor by profession and is suffering from Bipolar II for which she refuses to seek help. She has made all the wrong decisions in her life and hence she is filled with regret.

Anaya’s life takes a turn when she meets a patient named Gregory. He provides Anaya with a watch through which she can alter time and re-live her past life again, making all the right choices this time. But later she is filled with regret when she realizes that a different decision will not just alter her life but also of the ones she holds dearest.

This book talks about an illness that is recognized but hardly talked about. I loved the fact that the author decided not just to raise such an important issue but also normalize seeking help for such an illness through this book.

The character development of Anaya can be seen from the start itself. The way Anaya’s desperation to change her life decisions are shown is extravagant. The way the author represents the mind of a 35-year-old in the body of 17 year old is while also maintaining the balance is just amazing to read.

Although the book is a light read, it does leave you to wonder in your thoughts quite often. The book does take some dark turns which that makes the reader guilty from time to time. These dark phrases in between the chapters make Anaya question a lot of things in her changed/new life. She does question if all the good things in her life are worth the suffering of others? But she overcomes these facts as she looks upon the bright side of her life decisions.

I would rate this book a 3 out of 4 stars for the reasons stated above. Also, this book is professionally edited and I did not find any errors or typos while reading this book.

I would suggest this book to people who like fiction books in general. It is also suitable for people who like sci-fi books and would like to enjoy a light read from time to time.
