The novel The Assignment by Don Chance is about a 48-year-old woman named Catherin Jenkins, who also goes by Cj.
Cj and her husband Trey have a long distant marriage and they have a daughter together who is in college. Cj has just become the 41st president of Ryson- Scott University and that comes with great responsibilities. This leads to her barely being able to see her husband who lives in a different city. This novel follows Cj's career successes and her life struggles. This is a fast-paced novel and an easy read that is sure to keep you entertained.

While I didn't find any errors with grammar or punctuation, I did notice a mistake the author made. In the beginning of the book Cj is an only child but by the middle of the book she all of a sudden has a brother. I also feel the novel itself could have been edited better in the since of how repetitive it is. Alot of things could have been cut out because it was already mentioned one or two times already in the book.

This novel had a great way of keeping me entertained. I am not one to read about academics and job struggles but surprisingly this novel kept me hooked. I was constantly wondering how her projects would turn out, if her relationship with her husband would survive, and how she would get through all the obstacles thrown her way. It was a fast-paced book and an easy read with a twist ending I never seen coming.

That being said there are a few things I didn't enjoy about this novel. From the start the main character is too likeable. It's like she had no flaws and just could get away with anything, including drinking and driving. Also, the fact the author made insinuations of girls getting sexual assaulted because they drink and put themselves in that situation was very upsetting.

I gave this novel 3 out of 4 stars because of the above reasons. The error of her being an only child and then through the middle of the book she had a brother. I also didn't like the way the author insinuated multiple times that girls can avoid sexual assault if they didn't drink because that would be putting themselves in a situation to get sexual assaulted. I wanted to take another point off just for that, but I didn't because I actually enjoyed the rest of the story and the surprise ending made up for it. Another reason I took off a point was because of the repetitive narrating the main character constantly had in her head.

I would recommend this book to anyone over the age of 18. I think anyone who enjoys academics, character development and stories about real marriage problems would enjoy this book.
