Review of Twisted But True
It is quite interesting to read a crime thriller and find yourself laughing so hard. The book Twisted But True, written by Daren Burch, is a book of many stories. It contains the experience of the author as a policeman. The book lives up to its title as the stories have twisted outcomes.
The book started with the event that motivated the author to join the force. His desire to save lives was developed that day. He and his friends had gone to a party. On their way home, while one of his friends was driving, a fatal accident occurred. They went to rescue the occupants of the car. They succeeded in bringing out some of them from the car. But, Burch did his best to try to save a young girl from the car as it was catching fire. He was so determined that he had already started imagining himself as a hero that saved a life if he saved the girl. Did he succeed?
There were so many interesting stories that unfolded as he responded to 911 calls. One of them was when he was driving to a burglary report. He saw a robber escaping from a shopping mall. He chased the robber, caught him, and was handcuffing him when the robber suddenly started screaming in pain. When he realized the robber was having cramps on his leg, he started administering the technique he learned when he was wrestling. He continuously punched the other leg of the robber. The onlookers didn't know this and were horrified at a policeman punching someone he had already caught. I couldn't help but laugh when I imagined the situation. Another story that caused me laughter was when he answered a call about a woman screaming at parked cars. He got to the location and saw that the woman was not only screaming but was also throwing feces at the cars. It was so funny that when he reluctantly went to arrest the woman; he ended up being covered with feces and urine as the woman urinated on herself.
I like a lot of things about the book. The structure, the plot, and others. But, the only thing I disliked was that the characters' features weren't fully developed. Even the author, who is the main character of the book. This made it difficult to imagine them in the scenes described in the book. Except for this, I find nothing else wrong with the book.
I thereby rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I found no errors in the book. It was professionally edited. I enjoyed reading it. It kept me interested until I finished it. I recommend it to thriller and comedy book lovers. I don't recommend it to children as it contains some vivid sex crime scenes.
