Brave Heart by Charlie Sheldon is a heart warming novel which follows Tom, a middle age man who enjoys hiking with his good friend William and William's daughter Myra. To his surprise, Tom discovers that his late daughter had a child when his ex wife unexpectedly drops her off at his place.

Sarah is very much like Tom's late daughter Becky in both her features and personality, and perhaps due to their similar trait in stubbornness, the two did not get along very well on their very first encounter. Sarah, who is twelve years old was very unhappy about living with her grandmother, and is even more displeased that she has to stay with Tom. Tom takes Sarah with him on his planned hiking trip. The trip brings many surprises to all four but will it bring Tom and Sarah closer?

I really enjoyed the novel as it explores the relationships between friends, parents and their children, as well as grandparents and grandchild. It also tells a story about the native Americans who told stories passed from generations to generations, traded, hunted and sailed.

There is a little bit of violence as the author describes certain fights in much detail. I would not recommend that children under 12 to read, but that is just a little part of the book and in my opinion, brings is an accurate description of how conflict was resolved by this group of people.

The book itself was quite difficult to read. There was almost no space between words, this is some kind of error that needs to be fixed, this is my least favorite part about reading the book.

I would rate it a 3/4 stars as it is wholesome but was difficult to read due to the reason above. The book had almost no grammatical and no spelling errors. I recommend the book to those who enjoy novels with some pre-historic highlights and/or wholesome writing about events which are close and far from reality.
