Review of Strong Heart
It was windy and raining when Sarah a teenage girl was bought by Ruth her grandmother to her grandfather Tom, that she never met. She was cold, shivering and hungry, she was offered bath and food. William (Tom's friend) and his daughter Mayra was also there as that was a night before their trip to Olympic National park. They decided to take Sarah with them even though Tom taught that was a bad idea. They started their journey, the following morning ,when arriving on the parking lot it was empty, but that other car came when they were still there and four men came out from it was from Buckhorn company, but they never knew. These men went off ahead of them, and they also took same direction and taking necessary rest in between. Sarah was not happy at all, Near Elwha they camped. After passing Lilian River Sarah went off, as they were discussing about Buckhorn International. Sarah came back she was shocking claiming that she has seen a Bear, a huge black one. Tom never believe her and she was upset, Tom showed them a very old Atlatl or thrower that he wanted to return to his grandfather's grave. They thought keeping it and examining it was a best idea that could keep Buckhorn Int. out from their Ancestors' place as it was valuable to them. Sarah loved it and she kept practicing throwing with it. They continue with their hiking to camp near Godkins Creek, they reached Bear Creek, Tom showed the where they camped over 40 years ago with Bob-Bob his grandfather. While there, Sarah drew Mayra and told about a mistreatment her mother had at Fletcher's house by then they realised she was an orphan. As Sarah and Tom kept fighting she went off and disappeared with the Atlatl ,for 8 days they searched for her with no luck. When she showed up she was a mess , injured, dirty, and collapse. When she woke up she told them an ancient story or a dream but she didn't finished it,it left them wondering and surprised. As she was a part of that story or dream, Sarah was named Strong Heart. This name fits her very well, her life in a dream was not easy as her real life was never easy . They went back home things were bad, Tom lost his job, Sarah was taken back to Ruth's house. On the other side William went to his Russian who was gonna help them identify silver from Atlatl, that friend of his was very sick and he died, but fortunately his friend's so Sergei helped them, he was interested to go back with William so he can go back hiking with them. When the get to William's house Tom came, Mayra also came she brought bad news, Fletcher tried to rape Sarah, she hurt him using a dart and she ran away to her place. So they to go back hiking and find the Atlatl, Buckhorn people followed them and told them that anything they find there will belong to them. They found Atlatl that brought them joy and hope, but it turned bad, Buckhorn people attacked and destroyed every evidence they had only Sarah's Drawing were left.
On their way back home now, Sarah decided to finish her story or dream where, Ancient people travelling in ocean from Island to Island collecting things and facing difficulties. I really liked the way Charlie Sheldon giving details about those Ancient travellers. So at this point it is very clear to a reader that this child, Sarah is not just a normal child but she is their leader her soul connects very well with her ancestors. And the Bear that she saw was not just lie it was there and it helped them to find their way out.
when they got blocked by the fire on their way out, they used a way that a Bear showed Sarah. Now they started to believe that Sarah' weird stories might be meaningful and helpful.
At last, wow they saw a Bear, big black one it showed up, the Bear showed them a Sacred place. At last Tom believed Sarah , yes bringing Sarah here was a best idea and he promised t bring Sarah back the following year.
I didn't find anything bad on this book , it is well edited, Charlie Sheldon did his research very well. He knows a place well even someone who never been there is clear , as I said loved the book.
So I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I enjoyed reading it, I could not put it down. Oh wow, our little Sarah our Strong Heart.
I would really recommend old people , Children of all ages to read this book, it is fun ,exciting and teaching at the same time.
