Review of There and Back There Again
I don't remember the last time I was unable to summarize a book properly. This is the kind of book that I think not every person will understand. There and Back There Again by Andrew Alsup is a book which will confuse you for the good half of it. Sometimes you'll feel like Andy is talking to you, sometimes it's like he's telling you about his subconscious mind, and sometimes it's like he's just uselessly ranting about the world cause of his minor inconveniences. Sometimes it may feel relatable to you, sometimes it's just things that you can't care less about. Sometimes it may feel like the author has some mental illness, sometimes he's making so much sense that you can't think of anyone else who's capable of saying the things he's saying. It's a book full of events from Andy's life and how people treated him badly for the things he did, or maybe it was all in his head? To know the full story, you need to get a copy of There and Back There Again by Andrew Alsup.
The thing that I liked about this book is that it's much different from any other ordinary book. The way the author has described his condition is as if like he has some illness, yet he's the sanest person in all. The things he said might feel relatable to a lot of people. In one instance, he talks about how everyone shows that they care about him, but no one comes to talk to him or contact him in any way. I really felt like that as I was going through the same phase a year ago when things weren't going all well for me.
It has some poems in it as well. Some meaningful and well-written poems that are easy to understand and impactful at the same time. One line that I really liked in particular was 'Ice water in my veins, I don't miss people, I cherish their memories. Maybe we should just be happy with that.' This was one line that I felt a connection with. There was nothing as such that I didn't like about it.
I wasn't able to find any grammatical mistakes, so I must say it was very well edited. It has some profanity, but it's just borderline, so it won't disturb your flow of reading, and it doesn't contain any vulgar scenes.
In the end, I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I really enjoyed reading it, and it was a mystery for me till the very end. I would recommend it to people who like reading psychological books. People who have just started reading might find it a bit difficult, but who am I to stop you from doing what you want to.
