Cynthia and Dan: Cyber war is a romantic and suspense-filled fiction book written by Dorothy May Mercer. It is the 10th book in the McBride series. However, it can be read as a standalone. It is a book centered around cyber-crime, terrorism, security, technology, and a bit of romance.

Cynthia Patterson is senator McBride’s trusted chief security officer in Washington D.C. She also poses as his receptionist to ensure confidentiality and security. Glenn Patterson is a private investigator who is exposed to several sophisticated technologies. He is also the proprietor of Fairfax private investigators. Glenn, Cynthia, and two computer geniuses, Tim and Garth, worked together to plot a cyberwar against terrorists via the internet. Glenn supplied all the technologies required for the mission. Cynthia, who was in a relationship with Dan, got stuck in traffic one afternoon on her way to the office. She was saved by Sky, who later told her a drone had landed on the White House lawn. Hence the commotion. Who is Sky? Will her meeting with Sky sabotage her relationship with Dan? Or will it affect her secret mission? These were questions I had in mind as I continued reading the book.

When I first selected the book, I had doubts. I felt it was going to be a slow-paced, boring book. However, I was wrong. I did not dislike any part from the beginning of the book to the end. The author was very detailed, and the choice of words was carefully chosen. When Cynthia kept receiving letters from Sky, it took much self-control not to respond to his letters. I could relate to that part and felt her pain, as she wanted to reply but knew she must not.

I loved how the author was able to break the seriousness of the book by introducing a bit of romance to it. Capping so much information into just 259 pages is applaudable. There was no part of the book I disliked as each character was well developed.

Overall, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because it was flawless and professionally edited. I found no typographical or grammatical errors while reading. I also gave it a full rating because I find it quite informative. I learnt a lot about cybercrime and how the internet is used as a weapon for terrorism.

I recommend this book to adults, especially lovers of romance novels. Readers of books about technology will also find this handy. This book contains a description of sexual acts. Hence, I will not recommend it to children or young readers.
