Cynthia and Dan ” is a romantic action novel by Dorothy May Mercer which proves to be interesting. In this book, the protagonist Cynthia is a security head and personal bodyguard of senator McBride. Her boyfriend is Dan who is in police force. They are in a relationship since few years without any commitment from Dan. One day during a chaos occurred by a mysterious landing of a drone in the White House lawn, Cynthia meets a charming stranger Sky who impresses her in every way. This leads to an unexpected secret romance. Meanwhile, Cynthia also declares a cyberwar against terrorists with the help of her brother and two computer nerds. Whom Cynthia is going to choose at the end to spend her life with, Dan or Sky?Will Cynthia and her brother Glenn succeed in the cyberwar against the terrorists? What is the secret behind the drone landed in the White House premises in broad day light? This forms the rest of the story.

I normally like romantic action books but this one goes beyond expectations. The feelings of Cynthia when getting romantically involved with a stranger, the emotions and pain during her miscarriage, her joy for putting down the terrorist activities are very well explained in this book. Readers also get to know a lot about the gruesome terrorist activities which they do through the internet and how they can be stopped, at least to some extent. There’s a lot of information on how to prevent unwanted pregnancies ( if you want to) when all other means are failed.

However, I find it difficult to know that Cynthia can be so naïve about the cyber crimes and how cyber security works even though she is a security chief and bodyguard to a senator and her brother being a private investigator. This doesn’t sit well with me. Some of the scenes described in the book are a bit boring and unnecessary. For instance, when Cynthia decides to have a nice soak in her bath tub after a long tiring day seems to be dragging. Another such scene is the parking ticket incident when she was searching for her parked car with the senator’s wife.

The author balanced romance, suspense and action elements perfectly in this book. There is some mature content described in the early chapters due to which I recommend this book to 18+ readers. There is also a chapter regarding the miscarriage so the readers are advised to proceed at their own risk as it may be triggering to some people. I conclude by giving 3 out of 4 stars for this book.
