Health Tips, Myths, and Rips – A Physician’s Advice , is a book written by Morton E. Tavel, who is now a retired physician specialist in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease. Over 20 years he has published many publications, editorials and presented many speeches and lectures. In this book, he has touched on many topics that cover the daily diet and the pros and cons of the human daily intake of various food sources,

I found the book interesting as it covered all food sources that we cook with and eat daily. It showed some of the myths and tips clearly and gives statistical outputs that show the various studies that either prove or disprove what we the lay man this is fact. Some were founded, but I found that some were news to me and I will as the main person buying the monthly groceries and the chief cook, will try and see for myself how this new found information will benefit in my own household.
I found the reference numbers helpful so that I could refer to the end of the book to go and look up some of the information of where the info came from.

The only problem I found is that some of the ingredients mentioned, I would have to look for in my country as it may not be readily available, or I may need to substitute with an alternative.
The book seemed long, but once I was able to sit down and really concentrate, I was able to understand more. In some sections, I had to re-read to understand fully what the author said as some terms I was not familiar with and needed to double check on the meanings. Other than that, most of the book was easy to understand with regards to healthy eating habits.

I would recommend this book to anyone looking to truly find factual information on various food groups and who needs a nutritional understating on certain food group or all mentioned in the various chapters. It is a good guide to what certain foods contain, as well as their calorie daily intake and their various nutritional values and if they are seriously good or not, based on the various studies mentioned and referenced.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 as I found it interesting and it gave me something to think about next time I go buy my groceries. I will be checking the label more closely and make a more informed decision on what I will buy and what I will not be buying again.
