Two sisters, Amanda and Saira, different in every way, encounter great destruction that forces them out of everyday life into one of destruction and death. Amanda caught up in crippling anxiety over what she wants to be or do after graduating high school appears to disappoint her slightly hopeful parents. On the other hand, Saira is the crème de la crème of the two siblings who have no emotional connection to the family but instead focus on developing her intelligence. Their world is turned upside down when their parents are murdered by the acolyte of death on a murder spree, forcing them to find intriguing facts about their existence. With a fresh perspective on life, the two sisters and their newly found companions team up to halt death from consuming the world.

Rise of the Savior: Acolyte of Truth by Antoine Bonner is an action-filled supernatural-themed fantasy book that inspires readers to take control of their lives. The acolyte of truth, Amanda, who happens to be the main character, is a deeply flawed character with traits that do not match her destiny. She is the opposite of a hero, filled with self-doubt, yet she could not run away from her true calling. As she grew more confident with time, thanks to the fantastic support of her friends, she was able to rise to the occasion. Amanda’s journey from uncertainty to certainty is why I call this book an inspiration for young adults.

I liked the descriptive action narration that made it feel like watching a movie in my mind. The author’s integration of spirituality in a fantasy setting also made me wonder as this specific topic has always been an interest of mine.
The character dialogue in this book was too bland for my liking. It lacked depth and was too direct. It was more like each character lacked own words and spewed out whatever the author instructed them to say to get the story going. Just as the characters were eager to finish their lines, I also longed to finish the book. The only thing that kept me going was the mystery at the ending of the book. For these reasons and that it has editorial errors, I give it a rating of 2 out of 4.

I would recommend it to mature readers who like action-packed fantasy books. The reason I recommend it to grown readers is that it contains a lot of profanity.
