Health, Tips, Myths, and Tricks by Morton E. Tavel, is a lifestyle read on how to live a long and healthy life. The book is 300 pages divided into 62 chapters of knowleagdeble facts based on his expertise as a doctor. He carefully distinguishes the facts from myths as most self-help books are written to line the pockets of greedy people, with no consideration of the problems caused. His background as a physician greatly influences the premise of the book to great effect, after all who would question their doctor.

The book is very informative and educational. He makes it more interactive and enjoyable by use of flow charts and other methods to get his point across without too much difficulty. He also gives suggestions rather than ultimatums as people have their own way of lifestyle that rarely changes. This serves to draw in more readers as one can decide what to do with the knowledge rather than being threatened with it, such as most authors who write self-help books do. He understands that ultimately, we are all unique in our right and freedom of choice is paramount when tacking this type of field.

What I liked most about the book is his writing techniques; each chapter is carefully backed up with facts not just claims. This serves as catalyst for one to reexamine their life choices and ponder on whether to change or not to. The book exceeded my expectations since it was both fun to read and very educational. This, after all, is a rarity in this genre. There is nothing to dislike about the book as he does an excellent job. This is because of his background, which serves to instill more confidence rather than doubts of whether to read and apply the knowledge to one’s life choices.

The book is expertly written since it has no errors, also the lack of profane words and sexual content is refreshing as most tend to use all the above. Since it is a self-help book, any religious aspects are not mentioned or tackled minimizing the risk of offending ones beliefs.

I recommend the book to those seeking a change in their life pertaining to health, since it backed by facts and experience in the field. I enjoyed the read and made me ponder and consider changing; this serves to accomplish the goal of the book. Due to all the factors stated, I rate it at four out of four stars.
