The night before their SAT, twin brothers Bing and Ron get involved in a surprisingly freaky adventure. Instead of studying for their test, the brothers learn something else that night—especially about the Golfers' Association. The association, which comprises old-age golf players, has chosen that particular night to hold a ritual. They plan to sacrifice Bing and Ron's friends, Meat and Kaitlyn, to summon a demon. Bing and Ron must race against time to save their friends from the golfers, but that's not all. In the course of one night, they also learn about the golfers' enemy, Servants of Darkness; a dagger with a despicable soul inside it; and monsters called "teethheads."

Demon Freaks by J. R. R. R. (Jim) Hardison is a funny and entertaining book. I enjoy reading it because the story is intriguing; the author's word choices are diverse, making reading appealing. Unfortunately, even though I find no plot holes in the storyline, some parts are not amusing enough. Instead, the story becomes dull and even makes me cringe because of how odd it seems. For example, the part where Grunther gives instructions to the caddy to come to the library. The author might intend to write this part as hilarious; however, it makes me frown because Grunther and the caddy seem genuinely dumb rather than funny.

Nevertheless, there is a part I like the most, like where Bing and Ron fight the "teethheads." When Ron realizes that he almost lost his brother, he is troubled by the possibility of being separated from Bing. Here, readers can see that Ron can be a devoted brother to Bing and not behave carelessly. I think the author has successfully developed the brothers' relationship so the readers can feel the emotion between them.

The least liked part in this book is when Brom leaves Bing and Ron at the library and saves himself. The twins have to risk trusting Brom to rescue their friends. Instead, Brom traps them and leaves them alone to be caught by the golfers. I also think that this book has too many male protagonists and lacks female characters. Kaitlyn might be the only female lead character, but her character lacks depth. I hope the author explores Kaitlyn's personality further if the author decides to write a sequel.

This book still has some minor errors, but readers do not need to worry since the error will not affect the whole story. Readers who enjoy reading horror stories mixed with comedy and uncomplicated storylines will appreciate this book. It is important to note that there are a lot of profanities and some borderline sexual contents in the book; otherwise, the story is still entertaining. Based on this review, I rate the book 2 out of 4.
