Michael C. Higgins, PhD uses his immense first-hand knowledge of wine, travel, and the area of Bordeaux, France to bring this beautiful place and all of its attractions right into the reader’s home with his book, Exploring Wine Regions: Bordeaux France. The incredible amount of detail in this book makes it very easy and enjoyable to read. The author has personally traveled all around the region to each of the places he discusses in the book, and his passion and expertise clearly show.

I most enjoyed that this book could be read in so many ways by many different people. It could be used as a very detailed travel guide for someone who wants to visit the area of Bordeaux, France. It could also be used as a wine-tasting guide for those who would like to learn more about how to distinguish between different wines and how to spot various flavors and levels of quality. This book could also be read by someone wanting to learn about the history of wine and winemaking. And it can also be enjoyed just for fun as an interesting look into another corner of the world, complete with beautiful pictures.

Another thing I greatly enjoyed was reading about the history of the region. The incredible mixture of climate, geography, and human intervention have all worked together to create the perfect place to grow and make all of these quality wines. It really is fascinating to learn about all the factors that fit together to make it possible.

I cannot think of anything about the book I disliked. It might not be for everyone, but as I said before, there are so many types of people who would enjoy reading this book for different reasons.

I gladly give Exploring Wine Regions: Bordeaux France three out of four stars. I enjoyed reading this book, and I only felt the need to give it three rather than four stars because it could use another round of editing. The information is interesting and well-presented, and the descriptions and pictures are beautiful.

I would recommend this book to anybody who enjoys learning about another part of the world. There are beautiful pictures of the countryside, castles, food, historical landmarks, and of course, wine to enjoy throughout the book. The focus is obviously on wine and wine-tasting experiences, so if that is not of interest to you, you may not find as much enjoyment reading this book.
