Review of Island Games
[Following is a volunteer review of "Island Games" by Caleb J. Boyer.]
What will be your reaction if one day you suddenly woke up not on your bed in your home but on an island beneath the trees, on the ground full of sand and facing a large blue ocean. Island Games by Caleb J. Boyer is a story of two friends Ryan and Matthew both of whom one day woke up on a sandy beach under the trees. Both of them were feeling thirsty and couldn't remember anything about how they came here and what happened last night. In the beginning they were clueless about what to do on that island but in order to rescue themselves they were just moving ahead in hope to find someone or something that would take them back to their homes.
In order to find some food and water, they everytime reach in a different region than the previous one having a different temperature and surrounding but on that same island. Soon they have realized that it is a type of game in which they have to pass different levels and everytime they did that they were awarded by some food and water. Finally they reached the last part of island after which they thought they will be back to their homes. But were they thinking right? Will they be definitely at their homes after the last stage which they thought would be?
There are a lot of things in the story which I loved and some valuable lessons that everyone should learn. Whenever anyone of Ryan and Matthew stuck in a troublesome situation in their journey the other one has always helped him to move out of that in a safest possible way. This has made their friendship more stronger and reliable. They got to know that to be out of this island they have to work as a team and to accept idea or strategy of one another by keeping their ego aside.Though they were facing a lot but they find ways to laugh at the stupid jokes of one another which they would never if they were living their normal lives.
They realize the value of each other. Moreover they realize the value of food, water, clothes and especially land which most of the people never understood. Matthew used to believe that he couldn't even win a basketball match and had never faced any challenge because he was not that much confident but here in this island they have passed many challenges between life and death which made both of them believe that they can conquer anything in the world if they have the courage to do that.
There is nothing which I don't like about this story. Everything seems to have a positive impact. I will give 4 out of 4 stars as I didn't find any error in this book. This book must be good for students to build confidence in them and to learn some moral values.
