Review of Devil in False Colors
Devil in False Colors is probably one of Jack Winnick’s best books. This is the third in a series, but can be read as a stand-alone. Mr. Winnick’s books start with a dramatic scene. This one certainly did with a vicious massacre that leaves five children dead at a Beverly Hills pre-school in California. It seems to be yet another hate crime. The terrorists were speaking Arabic.
Lara Edmond works for the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force, also known as JTTF. Ever since J. Edger Hoover ran the FBI, has their been a person like Lara Edmond. She is very knowledgeable in the computer field and a very quick learner. Her expertise is deciphering codes, and she knows what she’s doing, and does it very well. Uri Levin is one of the most famous Mossad assassins. Lara and Uri have worked together before and have had a romantic relationship. Their relationship is unique in a way that they think for one another or understand what has to be done. Uri travels to the United States under different aliases, from Uri Levin to Uri Cohen and several in between.
When Lara arrives in Los Angeles from New York and Uri arrives from Israel they disguise themselves. Uri as an escaped terrorist now living in the Muslim community. He knows that he has to get close to the imam who is responsible for these horrific attacks. While Lara answers an advertisement by a Muslim cleric who is seeking a blonde American bride. Uri and Lara are not aware that the terrorists know who they are and their lives are in danger. The story takes on another twist.
The book is a very fast past action thriller, it’s extremely difficult to put down. There are so many mysterious plot twists and turns that you must know what will happen next. The Iranian prime minister is involved with the Russian foreign minister, which is interesting. And the difference between Sunni and Shia Muslims.
I liked the way the author tells of the creation of the State of Israel, anti-Israel sentiment, and how the Muslims want to destroy the State of Israel. Jack Winnick’s knowledge of all the above is quite unique.
Jack Winnick grabs your attention from the first chapter of his book. Everyone who went to high school took history. We all learned so much and hopefully we retained what we were taught. Things have certainly changed in the world today but Mr. Winnick shows us what is going on now. It’s interesting that ISIS or ISIL is a nickname westerners gave DAESH. Animosity between two main branches of Islam: the Sunni and the Shia. Quote from book “Islamic State” Caliphate (Sunni) slaughters it’s neighboring Shia citizens.”
This book is very well written and professionally edited, and contains minor errors and minor profanity. I recommend this book for everyone except people under eighteen years old. My reasoning for this is the very graphic and violent scenes. There are sexual scenes but not true sexual scenes. It’s so very interesting the knowledge that Jack Winnick has of the Middle East, it’s incredible. It’s a book that should be read. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars
I’m hoping that this series continues.
