Review of Beneath the Muscle
Would you be bold enough to take the road that is less traveled? This road can be lonely, quiet, and narrow because only very few people are willing to take it. If this is your desire, then Beneath the Muscle by Lauren Powers is the perfect book for you.
Lauren Powers has lived an adventurer's life. She takes us through her journey to success, her struggles, and her passions in life. She talks about her educational background, work experience, and her fitness journey. I loved her writing technique as she does an excellent job of using her life experiences to help readers learn from them. She also shares some great tips on what it takes to be successful and bold enough to try what most people haven’t tried before.
Her natural desire to achieve was my greatest motivation in the book. I will admit that I was expecting fitness motivation, but I was pleasantly surprised. My greatest motivation was her willingness to always be good at what she puts her hands on and set her mind to no matter what. Additionally, not allowing people's negative opinions or the naysayers to bring her down were great takeaways for me.
The author knows how to engage readers through her stories. For instance, when she talked about what she went through before she finally qualified to be a firefighter, I felt like I was there experiencing with her every moment. Additionally, I felt like I was in her shoes because of some of the things she went through, being among the very few women in the fire fighting department.
I also loved how she views life from a different perspective. This has also helped me implement it in my own life. After reading this book, I feel like I can tackle anything and not be scared of change from where I am seated now. I have also realized that I have wasted tremendous opportunities and may be struggling to succeed because of so many things that I never realized before reading this book. For instance, what it takes to be confident and determined to do something without giving up. Even if it means falling a thousand times and still finding the strength to bring myself back up. I was also challenged to be different and not be scared of the unknown, which has been my biggest challenge in life.
Beneath the Muscle was a generally a great read, written from the bottom of the heart. It was exceptionally edited and fun, and exciting to read. For these reasons, I believe the book deserves a perfect 4 out of 4 stars. Although very few parts of the book felt repetitive, there was nothing that I didn’t love about the book. Therefore, it is best suited to all types of readers. I also recommend Beneath the Muscle by Lauren Powers to readers who are looking for self-help books.
