The book “How to be Successful, Think Like a Leader” written by M. Curtis McCoy is a character-building book that inspires readers to be brave and inculcate good qualities in life to become successful.

The author himself has gone through many hardships by having diabetes at an early age and also cancer in his later years. It is inspiring that he fought through all of that and was able to stand tall again. He expresses his gratitude towards his mother and friends who never left his side and always encouraged him. I loved the idea of him asking same questions to different successful persons as they share us their different opinions, inspirations, tough choices they made and what they value the most in their lives. But the ultimate road to be successful is to believe in yourself and work hard for your passion.

The contents of this book include interview of successful persons by the author and advices to become successful by the author himself. I personally loved the definition of success given by Paul B. Watson, pastor (Downtown Vineyard Church) "Are you winning in the things that matter?" This is so true because in the end true happiness is what matters the most in life. The book delivers us the insights of successful persons and what it really takes to become successful. How they became successful by making sacrifices, taking risks, working hard and believing in almighty and themselves.

I loved the book but I am not satisfied by the way the book was compiled. It had interviews in between other chapters which made it look disorganized. I would have rather preferred it with chapters in the beginning followed by interviews or vice-versa. I am also not so satisfied with the title of the book; it is too generalized for being a book that is more focused on being a successful entrepreneur or businessman. I think being successful varies for different persons, some might not want to be an entrepreneur or businessman but rather have an ideal 9-5 job or a house-wife. There were also some instances where author’s perspective was not wrong but not applicable for all individuals like the “practice of delayed gratification”, some people might prefer it but there are people who enjoy small success as an inspiration to work harder even more. Some of the interviews were my personal favorite and I am going to inculcate that in my life too.

This book is overall a good read but there might be difference in opinions between the author and readers. It had very few grammatical mistakes which can be overlooked. The interviews and character-building chapters were inspiring. This book will come in handy for aspiring entrepreneur and businessman as I mentioned earlier. Overall, I would rate this book a three out of four stars.
