Review of The Necessity of Finance
We have a very limited amount of time in this world and during that period, there is a lot to plan for from: Education, health, retirement, housing, holidays, children as well as other investments. The Necessity of Finance has broken down these elements of our lives like you can break down arithmetic or reading to an elementary school child. DR. ANTHONY CRINITY IV has summarized the basic concepts and differences between Finance on one hand and Economics on the on the other. Economics deals with creating and managing wealth for a nation or one of its entities, while Finance focuses on creating wealth and managing it for individuals, groups, or organizations.
Now, planning for life is not easy because you have to think of all manner of eventualities. DR. ANTHONY CRINITY IV in The Necessity of Finance has given different options to consider when making an investment or staying out of it. The Author is not dictating to you which investment vehicles to pick or discard, however has explained the risks and investment trade-offs for each taking into consideration the amount of time and the returns. Depending on which phase of life you are in, you may decide to choose a short-term investment option, a medium-term option or the more risky but lucrative options like real estate or stocks. DR. ANTHONY CRINITY IV acts as a guide, quoting and reading from Giants like Adam Smith, an authority in the science of Economics and Finance.
What I love about The Necessity of Finance, is the way it has placed financial planning at the center of risk mitigation. The author basically tells you that you cannot go through life on auto-pilot and yet there are tools to guide you and help you make informed choices. The choices you make will either result in being solid investments or straddling liabilities. This book opens your eyes to a world of opportunities in the realm of financial planning. I also like the way The Necessity of Finance has explained the key differences between Economics and Finance, and whether you would be operating in a public realm or a private financial entity. There is no confusion whatsoever. I also like the way DR. ANTHONY CRINITY IV mentions that investments from a diversification point of view reduces risks and increases your chances of returning value. There is no one fits all investment vehicle, the choices you make will depend on your need. He has minimized the often burdening jargon that is common in many books of this nature.
The only part I found a bit confusing to the common person who is not a finance or economics specialists, is the use of the terms financial markets and capital markets. To the common man, these are one and the same thing. The nuances in the meaning and explanation may not be so distinct to a lay person.
I would give this book 3 out of 4 stars for its comprehensive coverage of Finance as it applies to individuals, groups or organizations. This book makes it clear that your intention is to maximize your returns and minimize your risks in any financial investment you may want to get into. It encourages you to take a broader perspective in considering the various investment options available and to mix them into a portfolio if necessary to make them profitable and reduce reduce risks.
The Necessity of Finance is a book I would recommend to every young adult just starting out in his or her career. It will help them plan their lives, health insurance, mortgages as well as other investment areas. I would also recommend this book to all parents, just in case they are overwhelmed by the pressures of life and need a guiding hand. It will help them plan the education of their children, their own retirement and their estates when the time to leave this earth comes.
