Review of The Biblical Clock
The Biblical Clock: The untold secrets linking the Universe and Humanity with God’s plan by Daniel Friedmann with Dania Sheldon is a plethora of scientific and historical information about the origin of the Universe.
Most of us sometimes wonder about the origin and evolution of the universe and the human race when we read our textbooks or listen to the tales in our childhood. When and how all these things happened? This book is an answer to settle the curiosity of such people.
The story starts from a place called Acre in Israel. In 1209 there was a gruesome attack of invaders for political and religious reasons and killed thousands of people every day. The Jewish people followed the old Bible and its teachings are quite different from the modern one. The author is trying to find the accord between science and the Biblical text. With the help of the literature, he is trying to calculate the age of the universe. There are many shreds of evidence in the book explaining the theory. Since the author is a physicist and at the same time believer in Bible, the facts that he presents are no ordinary. He is trying to find the proportionate constant that can evaluate the facts given in the Bible and the ones given by scientists.
A faith-following saint called Rabbi Chaim Vital has played a major role in the teachings of the Bible. His master was called, “Lion” because of his fearless nature. He was mystical, and he gave all his teachings by performing the rituals, and he didn’t give anything in writing. The disciples used to write on their own and later all the notes were compiled and they were interpreted when the master left for the heavenly abode after coming back from a retreat. The teachings were collected and called “The Tree of Life” or “Etz Hayim.” It contains fundamental concepts of creation and the ways to improve the world. The author has collected data from these teachings, and he has compared with other facts, and he has found a close relationship between the two.
Some parts of the books were really interesting. For example, there is a fun chat between the teacher Rashi and the young boy Aryeh, where the boy is comparing that a monkey is better than a lion and can justify it. Then, the analogy of a jean factory (where torn jeans are manufactured) to the facts available for calculating the age of the universe is unique.
There is nothing to be disliked in the book. The book is full of knowledge about the history of Jews and the Bible. There is a lot of depth behind each calculation, and the book is full of wisdom, which a layman has no idea about.
I would give the book 4 out of 4 stars. It is professionally edited. I did not find any errors in it. I was amazed to find out the comprehension the writer has shared. While calculating scientific formulas we always find the constant of proportionality, which very successfully the writer has been able to find out while calculating the age of the universe. Most of the factors are matching with the scientific ones.
The recommended audience of this book is anyone above the age of 20. The reader has to be mature and wise to understand the in-depth knowledge of both science and religion. I am a science background person, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Others can also understand and learn various aspects of it.
