Antonie Bonner’s Rise of the Savior: Acolyte of Truth is a riveting fantasy novel that is bound to leave the readers dumbfounded. This is the first book in the Rise of the Hearts series; nevertheless, this can be read as a standalone novel. The book focuses on Amanda, a normal teenager with an exciting and unique personality. All she wanted was to leave for college, compete in karate, and find a way to understand her uncanny six-year-old sister, Saira. However, her plans take a turn for the worse when she realizes that she was chosen to be the acolyte of truth by an ancient deity. Shortly afterwards, she becomes aware of the fact that her sister is an acolyte too. Amanda is a genial and lively person, while Saira is impassive most of the time, and together, the two sisters make quite a fascinating duo.

Our choices define who we are. While Amanda tries to come to terms with the fact that she was chosen to save the world, Jamie, a doctor treating Amanda’s father, chooses to be the acolyte of death in order to save his dying son, even if that meant killing other innocent children. Before long, Amanda is plunged into a transcendental world of deities and acolytes. She is left with no choice but to embrace her powers and responsibilities when Jamie comes after her own sister. She discovers that she has to overcome her fears in order to protect the ones she cares about.

The book is quite enthralling and suspenseful with an engrossing plot. The story is fast-paced; however, this just builds up the suspense throughout the novel. Keeping a reader captivated till the end is undoubtedly a strenuous task. Be that as it may, this book has certainly managed to keep me intrigued throughout. I am essentially fond of the diversity of characters in the story. Each of the characters is unique in their own way. In addition to that, the hint of humor that can be detected all through makes the story much more congenial. The eye-catching cover is definitely an added benefit.

The book is undeniably a well-written thriller. Nonetheless, there are quite a few references to various mythologies. The book incorporates terms like prana, kundalini and chakras that might prove to be a little difficult to follow. Moreover, the names of a few characters appear to be very similar. This would be a little confusing for the major part of the story. However, as the story progresses, the readers get well-acquainted with all the characters, making it trouble-free to continue with the rest of the story. Furthermore, the end might seem too predictable to a few readers. But, despite everything, the novel is sure to leave you astounded.

All in all, I would rate this book a 4 out of 4 stars for its distinctive and prominent storyline. The dynamic relation between the two sisters is undeniably the high spot of the story. Moreover, the contrasting personalities of all the characters proved to be an incredible addition to the notable outcome. The author’s style of writing is definitely commendable.

Throughout the book, there are a few instances of profanity found. Additionally, there are numerous scenes comprising graphical violence. However, there are just a handful of errors; it was well-edited. On the whole, I recommend this book to people who enjoy reading action-packed and fantasy novels. A little amount of knowledge on Buddhist and Egyptian mythologies would be of great help in reading the book.
