How to be successful is a self-help book that through a collection of interviews and events that really happened infuses the reader with the confidence necessary to be successful in work and in everyday life. M. Curtis Mccoy tells as a first person narrator how he overcame the adversity of his brain tumor and how he managed to create companies like Best Cellular, important for many people.

For me, there were several positive aspects to this book. First of all it is very smooth, it reads very quickly and is perfect for those who want to read something light during a short lunch break. I really enjoyed several motivational phrases, which made me want to challenge myself and realize my dreams. Among these I would like to point out: “we are where we’re at in life because of our choices. Our decisions, our outlook on life, and our attitude play a massive role in where we end up.” This sentence is particularly important for me because it is the basis of every motivational book I’ve read in recent years, and finding it here gave me the incentive to continue to believe in what I’m doing.

In parallel, I found several negative aspects that slowed me down a bit in reading. For example, those continuous interviews with successful people in the long run were heavy and repetitive. The length of their answers, which at times were very similar to each other, made the reading infinite. I would have preferred a section with questions that the reader could answer. Another downside, which believers might like, is the continual reference to the Bible. I understand that many parables can be used as a metaphor for success, but the need to entrust every possible solution to God has repeatedly made me think not to continue reading the book.

To How to be successful by M. Curtis Mccoy I decided to assign 2 out of 4 stars, because if on one side I liked it very much, on the other some flaws have ruined the smooth flow of my reading. I found no grammatical or syntactical errors, so it is a well edited book that has no sexual content. The only flaw is the religious content, repetitive and heavy for those who are not Catholic.

In general, I would recommend this book to all people who are in a stalemate, that is, they don’t know which side to go on. The motivational phrases that can be found in this book give the right charge to face any day and, why not, even to become a successful person.
