WE ARE VOULHIRE : Arrival Under The Great Skies by Matthew Tysz explores multiple perspectives. There wasn't any clear protagonist in the story. The story revolves around a small and suffering town along with its lord, a refugee and an evil powerful mage. The people of Hillport has gone through traumatic events at the hands of their last two lords. A new lord and his family tries their best to help Hillport heal financially and emotionally. Galen is a refugee in Voulhire. He is humbled by the experience he has had in his homeland. The story briefly explains his journey as he finds a home and a new friend. Meldorath is a mage who tries to conquer the magic world. He experiments on innocent people, brutally murdering them in the process. Dark owerpowers light. There is death, destruction, brutality, manipulation, resilience, optimism and determination.

There were some things that I disliked. Physical appearance of some significant characters were described long after their introduction in the story which was kind of annoying. After reading the summary, I expected the book to be thrilling but the story was too slow placed making it less thrilling. I know that Matthew Tysz has planned nine books in this series. The book was like an introduction to the fantasy world but there could have been more to the plot. The plot was predictive at times.

There were many good points too. The characters were really interesting. I believe character development would be great in later books. There was mysterious vibe to the whole book. The use of imagery kept me indulged. It was like a movie playing in my head; the movie was really vivid. I learned way too many new words while reading. It increased my vocabulary. The inclusion of a map of Voulhire was a good idea. The overall setting of Voulhire was refreshing. I liked that magical people and non-magical people existed in harmony with each other. Having no clear protagonist increased the mystery for me. The story portrays a realistic and relatable world.

I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. The book failed to get me hooked on the story. There were a few errors too. Despite this, the plot was engaging and I am looking forward to reading the next book in Voulhire series.

I recommend the book to someone who is interested in slow paced mystery and fantasy. The book is also a great choice for someone who is looking for a book filled with a good amount of imagery element. The book had direct and indirect vulgar sexual references. There was non-borderline profanity too. So, this book should be read by mature audiences.
