A Dream For Peace is an autobiographical work by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah. This book summarizes the struggles and accomplishments of Dr. Berrah as a political activist, a doctor, a scientist, and an ambassador. Let’s get to know his relentless work in bringing freedom, success, peace, harmony, and equality to all humans, shall we?

Dr. Berrah was born in Algeria when the country was still reeling under French colonialism. Through his hard work, he entered into a medical program in Bordeaux, where he forayed into the world of political activism. Then he became an integral part of the Algerian revolution. The political activism came with its dose of struggles and prison.

From there he joined the Moroccan liberation army, worked as a doctor in remote places, enrolled in a law school, toured Eastern Europe and China to shed light on the Algerian freedom struggle, reached the US on a scholarship to study further, became the first person to publish a hypothesis on reverse transcriptase enzyme, left the US to work as a special advisor to president Houphouët-Boigny in Côte d’Ivoire.

The above accomplishments are a mere gist of Dr. Berrah’s life, and I have not even talked about his love story. He strived for peace between Palestine and Israel from 1972; this highlights Dr. Berrah’s sharp foresight. This book also showcases his relationship with president Felix Houphouët-Boigny (president of Côte d’Ivoire). Along with this, readers will get to read about interesting meetings involving famous figures such as Mao Zedong, Pope John Paul II, etc.

I will rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. Other than few typos involving missing hyphens, I did not find any mistakes. So, I believe this book was professionally edited. I didn’t notice any form of profanity. I enjoyed the addition of old black and white photos to the story; it added personal touch.

Dr. Berrah never focused upon his struggles or inadequacies, which made his achievements seem easy to achieve and biased; this is the only complaint I have against this book. Other than that, this book celebrates an accomplished man with high ideals and moral standards. Dr. Berrah’s principles were admirable, especially his commitment to religious harmony. Discrimination was a constant part of his life, yet he took everything in stride. Both his personal and professional life will inspire the readers. He contributed a lot to the overall development of African and Arab countries.

This book is useful for readers interested in diplomacy and politics. Modern history enthusiasts looking to learn about the African freedom struggle will enjoy this book. There is abundant information for people learning about the nuances of political diplomacy. This is a long book that leans towards philosophical ideologies; so, if you get easily bored by analytical language, you can skip this book. Some readers might think of this writing as boastful, but I felt his accomplishments are worthy of all the acknowledgment. If you are interested in politics, diplomacy, and spirituality, then this book is an ideal pick for you.
