Have you ever had any questions about God, creation and religion in general? If you have, Wilderness Cry by Harry L. Hunt M.D. is a book you should read. As the author states in the cover of the book, it is a scientific and philosophical approach to understanding God and the Universe. Dr. Hunt grew up in a predominant conservative Catholic family and town. He participated in organized religion activities, and he demonstrates his knowledge on the subject in this book.

The first thing that caught my attention to the book was the title. Being a practicing Catholic myself, I couldn't understand the reason for it in a theological writing. The first pages of the book explain the mystery of the title in such a way that it got to my soul. “It is my voice that cries loudly and unceasingly for truth. I'm lost in a wilderness of disinformation….”

The author approaches questions so many of us have about God, Jesus, the Bible, sin, marriage, sex, and others. He looks into how organized religions use our beliefs to control our way of behaving in the life that God has bestowed on us. He begins explaining the theories of the creation of Earth and the Universe, then advances in a chronological order through the different eras of Christianity, including questions about what will happen to organized religions in the future.

What I liked most about this book is that the author states his points of view without being overly imposing on his beliefs. He combines science and philosophy to explain various topics related to religion, God, and the creation of the Universe. He demonstrates profound knowledge on the Bible and the different books containing the writings of Jesus's teachings and his life on Earth. The organization of this book is in chapters, one for each of the topics he discusses. It has a summary at the end with the most important facts and the conclusions he reached to in his studies. I found the summary to be a very fascinating way to finish the book,  with the reminders of what he found to be true in his opinion.

I disliked that the book was not inclusive of other religions, it is directed exclusively to Christians. During the reading I felt that some of the hypothesis he presented did not have enough evidence or back up to clearly state a fact. Some chapters are hard to read through, as they are written in a scientific language that is difficult to understand for the average reader.

I recommend this book to any Christian reader with a liberal view regarding organized religion, and to those who feel that they are missing explanations about aspects of their religious points of view. Readers who have some level of theological or scientific studies of the bible or the history of Christianity will surely find this book interesting.

I think that the topic of this book is fascinating, but some chapters were hard to understand, it also contains some typos and grammatical errors that could  be avoided with a more detailed editing process.  For the details explained before, I rate Wilderness Cry by Harry L. Hunt M.D. 3 out of 4 stars.

I appreciate the fact that you mentioned that the book is exclusively directed towards Christianity. Considering I don't have enough knowledge about this religion, I would have to skip this book. Thanks for the great review.
