Review by angelap5467 -- Worldlines by Adam Guest
Imagine living an infinite number of times. Imagine being able to make the same choice infinity number of times with different outcomes, simply choosing the best for you. Would you choose to be happy? Or successful? What if you can choose both? Or maybe neither? This is also known as parallel universes, or alternative reality, a hypothetical self-contained plane of existence, co-existing with one’s own. Let’s say these parallel universes exist and everything about this theory is true... Do you actually get to die?
Let me introduce you to “Worldlines” by Adam Guest, a ‘Many Worlds’ Novel where you will find answers to all those questions and get your head filled with even more. Adam did a brilliant job with combining few parallel universes in the novel and made all these physics hypothesis and theories so easy to understand and soak in. The idea throughout the book and the one I believe the author wanted to highlight the most is the fact that you live forever in the Multi Worlds and that somewhere you have a perfect life. If you died in one, you stayed alive in another and I think thеrе is no better consolation. The problem with this is that our brain is so quick to rather think life is just one straight line than to have some positive aspects about this topic. In his own words “ Whilst we’ve all heard the phrase “Life’s too short,” we all have that feeling, that pre-programmed one, of thinking bad things will never happen to us; trying to live each day as if it were your last without ever really believing it will be. What if there’s a reason for that? What if it isn’t too short? What if it’s infinite?”
Even though you have more than 2 parallel universes explained in the book, same characters, mixed positions, it’s very easy to catch up and connect the pieces in your head. There are hints hidden in the details in everyone’s thinking and I found it quite interesting to establish the priorities of each and everyone and go to the core of their beings and thought process.
The thing I loved the most in this novel was the various outcomes of someone’s action and you get to choose your favourite because frankly, you were shown every aspect of the decision. You could pick and choose, connect and hate the characters and with that, you get indulged with the book and become a part of it. Also, I liked the way it made me thinking and researching for something that I didn’t show interest in before.
With that being said, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. It’s well-edited, perfect flow, intriguing plots that kept me on the edge of the seat. I warmly recommend this book firstly, to anyone who wants to read a good book and maybe is interested in parallel universes or at least curious about this theory. I ended reading it in one seating because I simply couldn’t stop and it’s my comfort book from this day on.
