Review by Cherry Saraogi -- A Walk Through the Grapes
Jace Grazer returns to the suburbs of a small town called Willowcreek after having an unsuccessful career experience in New York. This is the town where his family lives and where he had spent all his life. The family owns a big vineyard and manufactures top notch quality wine. Jace's parents want their children to get involved into their business and Jace is hopeful now to carry forward their legacy. Soon after his return in the town, his family find themselves into a big blunder. Secrets were kept from Jace and he discovers a secret tunnel in the backyard of his house. There is a mystery involved regarding someone's death. He finds himself torn between his ex- girlfriend and her younger sister who happens to like him . This novel made me scratch my head a couple of times wondering who killed whom and what the secret is that Grazer family is hiding from their son, Jace. I was intrigued by the chemistry he shared with his ex- girlfriend as well as her sister so i was excited to find out who he will eventually end up with.
This piece is a mixed bag and it has it all. There is love triangle, an attempt to murder, accidents, hidden secrets, a secret tunnel and a couple of deaths. David Jackson has written this amazing novel A Walk Through the Grapes very creatively considering all the suspense quotient. I must give him enough credit for that. This novel has a lot to offer, some incidents are real whereas some are mere illusions that are often created by our minds. So, it won't be easy for anyone reading this to guess beforehand what is real and what is not.
The only thing that I didn't like was I didn't enjoy the first few chapters much. It was quite difficult to hold the interest and to continue flipping pages in hope of some mystery quotient ahead.
I will give it 3 out of 4 stars because the initial chapters were boring and couldn't hold my interest as I said earlier. Despite of that I continued reading and I am glad I did carry on as it has ample mystery and suspense elements. I found myself completely hooked to this novel later and couldn't keep it down till I finished reading the very last line of the last page.
If you are someone like me who enjoy mystery and thrill then I totally recommend this novel. You will be shocked with the revelations and turn of events especially when you least expect it. David Jackson's this piece didn't disappoint me at all.
