We Are Voulhire: The Flesh of the Mind by Matthew Tysz, is the sixth book of the We Are Voulhire series. The adventure continues with our three friends, Galen, Demetrius, and Rowan. The majority of the story includes many other characters such as Meldorath, Maido, Haper, King Nartik and the Emperor of Lullabies. Surprisingly, the reader will learn of new characters such as Angela and Adrian from Cridaea. The most surprising of all is learning of Javikun Modius and Folcro!

Since the Emperor of Lullabies took over Voulhire, Galen pursued Meldorath into the world of Caromentis, the magic world. With Meldorath absent from the Cosmos, the Emperor of Lullabies was free to do as he wished. Demetrius and Rowan who were left behind had to seek help in the Dire Vine Jungle. They created a new mission with Maido’s help. In other scenes we have Harper and King Nartik working together, even though Harper has a plan of her own to climb up in the ranks.

This book had so much creativity in regard to Caromentis. As soon as Galen stepped into this world, the reader is brought into an entirely different realm. Things just did not make much sense but the author does his best to describe Galen’s emotions and thoughts as he tries to make sense of this new world. I enjoyed reading about Galen’s fight to bring Meldorath back into their own world and also the persuasion he had on those already in Caromentis. Demetrius and Rowan struggled as well. The development with Maido’s character was one of my favorites. Seeing his relationship with Rowan was most entertaining. It also brought Maido’s character into a new light.

It was hard to figure out what I disliked about the book because at first, I was confused about the magic world but I think that is what Matthew Tysz intended. Caromentis was not supposed to make sense. It was supposed to be whatever world the creator wanted it to be. This world was very chaotic in a way the physical world could be chaotic during a war. I wanted to learn more about the Emperor of Lullabies and his servants. I wanted to know the backstory of Bob and Ralph.

I would rate this book 3 out of 4 stars because it was not my favorite book out of the six. It did not answer questions that I had from previous books. The book was well-edited and did not contain anything offensive to those who may have a certain belief. There is definitely more sexual content in this book but nothing too erotic. The book also contained profanity, so a mature reader is recommended just like the previous books. This book along with the others is suited for those interested in a story full of adventure, magic, violence, and fantasy.
