Review by _hime -- Running the Sahara by Marcel Nickler
Running the Sahara by Marcell Nickler tells you the real life story of the author's experience of his participating in Marathon des Sables held in 2017. Marathon des Sables, the toughest foot race in the world, is held every year in southern Morocco. This book also tells you the author's story of coming to the marathon race, following his passion, the up and downs of life, dreams and finally Marcel's story of making his dream come true.
It was 1998 when Marcel found his passion for running. He first participated in some small races. But to follow his inspirations, he participated in the Lausane Marathon. And after this nothing could stop him. He has run many marathons, ultramarathons. But he wanted more. He wanted to cross the Sahara dessert, enjoy the dessert's natural beauty and wanted to fulfill his dream. His wife encouraged him to fulfill his dream and so he began to prepare. He was 57 then but age didn't stop him from following his passion. He also wrote how he prepared for the world's toughest foot race. I like how he concentrated on everything possible, even in small details. But did his fine planning help him to win? Did he win the longest race of his life?
There are a lot of things I like about this book. The author didn't focus on winning the race, he enjoyed it. He relished the race every bit. This is not a story of winning a race only, this is Marcel's story of finding himself. He pushed his all boundaries and entered a new chapter of his life. I came to know that race is not just a race when you enjoy it. It is something else. I like how he planned everything so carefully. This book also teaches you a lot of stuff. The book is very essential for people who love adventure.
I don't see any reason to dislike the book. So I am rating this book 4 out of 4. If you love adventure, you NEED to read this book. You will find a lot of important lessons. And if you don't like adventure, still I would suggest you to read this book. I can tell that this book will help you to achieve your own dream.
