[Following is a volunteer review of "Into the Hand of a Woman" by Carla C. Ohse.]

[rwc=id432913-125]4 out of 4 stars.[/rwc]Jordana Storm appears in judge Deborah Miller's court asking for a divorce. Her husband, however, does not want to provide alimony. Mrs. Storm’s lawyer then reveals that her client deserves to receive half of Mr. Storm’s property, as she was trafficked from Israel and married against her will. Deborah rules in Jordana’s favor, but something about the case sticks with her. She speaks to her assistant Christine and tells her that she feels that God is trying to communicate with her.

A few days after the case, she bumps into Jordana. Jordana tells the judge how she got to America from Israel. She lived in a slave trafficking camp in northern Israel and was sold to her ex-husband. This hardens Deborah's resolve, and she suddenly decides to leave for Israel. She tells Christine and Jordana about her plans, and the latter pleads to the judge to find her sister Jael. Jordana says that Jael is the slave of the head of the camp. With only her dreams to guide her, Deborah leaves for Israel. When she arrives, she's assigned a bodyguard. Will the hard-faced man be a hindrance to her plans to save Jael and the rest of the women in the camp?

Into the Hand of a Woman by Carla C. Ohse is a crime fiction inspired by the Bible. The title itself is a verse from the book of Judges. Narrated in the first-person narrative, we see Deborah place blind faith in God even in the face of death. Her courage and determination to free all the women in the camp is admirable. I could understand her anger at the deplorable conditions these women lived in. She also finds love in Israel which leads to a few erotic scenes. Her confession of love is so sweet and heartwarming.

I enjoyed the action-packed scenes. At times, I was afraid to turn the next page and find out what happens next. I didn't find any errors in the book. I did not like the constant repetition. She already mentions that she was leaving for a four-month sabbatical leave, there was no need to mention it four extra times. Also, Deborah's faith did not seem realistic. Her constant cries for help seemed exaggerated to me. Despite this, I rate the book 4 out of 4 stars.

Although the book is fictional, the reality that women and children are sold to the highest bidder in developed countries is very real. I applaud the author for writing a book on such an important topic. She highlights gender inequality issues, and therefore I would recommend it to all supporters of gender equality. Fans of romance novels will also enjoy this book. However, the book is highly religious and best suited for Christians.

But the path I’ve chosen has always been the right one, and I wouldn’t have had it any other way. :)
