We are Voulhire: Someone Else’s End is the third book in a series written by Matthew Tysz. It continues its narration of the tale of Voulhire, centering on a power lust, mysterious activities, and a separated people. It takes us to a fantasy land ruled by King Wilhelm at its peak of success. It takes us through a fight for justice for the common man in a land ruled by magic, and a power struggle for the throne. It guides us through recovery missions, fight scenes, and a medieval army all intertwined in a struggle for the predominating force over Voulhire, who is going to succeed?

This book is written in the third-person and first-person perspective. The alternation is done based on who is being focused on at the time, and how relevant their thought process is to the development of the book. This transition in narration is done quite fluidly by the author, leaving no room for confusion or break in the flow. It is narrated, not in chapters but from a person’s perspective or story introduces a new part of the book, making it easy to understand.

I particularly like the development of the storyline, character development, and story consistency. The storyline leaves the reader guessing because it isn’t the conventional story or plot. It’s something unique and outstanding, a quality Matthew Tysz spreads in all his books. The writing style of the book is informative, thought-provoking, and pleasurable. The characters are relatable, even though they are from a different time. Their humorous attempts at a difficult life and their fight for survival made them very heartwarming for the common reader.

I was particularly unhappy about the way some things went in the book, there were gory scenes and abrupt character assassinations. Although the author was able to maintain the story’s dignity and interest, he took a great risk in introducing unprecedented deaths to the lives of characters he has so beautifully developed. Nevertheless, these things do not affect the overall enjoyment of the book.

Due to the exceptional editing in this writing, enjoyable writing style, and great story line, I rate this book a 4 out of 4 stars. I recommend it to lovers of fantasy with a stomach for slight goriness, and a tolerance for surprising endings. A fair warning, to enjoy this book, the preceding books must be read as it cannot function as a standalone.

I too have read this book and I agree with your rating. I enjoyed this book the most out of all the books in the series. I hope the sequel will make the plot clearer though.

Sometimes series are hard to keep up, but this book averts that pitfall. Good to know that this one wasn't disappointing. Great review.

Seems to be a great fantasy story written by the author in a series of books. The review has very well brought out the style and theme of the book. Thanks.
