Two experienced trade practitioners Bruce Aitken & Ngosong Fonkem wanted to write a book on one of the most important issues of our time—international trade in trouble. Subsequently writing TRADE CRASH: A Primer for Surviving and Thriving in Pandemics and Global Trade Disruption a timely publication at a time when international trade is facing unprecedented disruptions and challenges.

Globalization removed boundaries to trade and prevented World War III. International trade is the bedrock of the U.S. economy but it is currently under threat. Author being a lawyer/businessman/globalist points out how we have failed miserably in the way we implemented it with a horrific result to America. Author compares it with wide-open floodgates to irrigate a field. In his view, many of our current social problems are a result of failed globalization.

As I was starting out with the book, the thing that struck me was the prologue. Since I am not familiar with globalization or any technical term related to the title it equipped me to understand the rest of the book more better. Charts, illustrations, chapter summaries and even video links shows author’s level of effort and deep research and were a pleasant addition. It was interesting that the author has predicted a trade crash in the second to third quarter of 2021.

In a trade war there are no real winners. All countries involved lose. In this book his goal is twofold: to educate and to equip businesses with necessary tools to adapt and manage trade disruptions. Author thinks COVID 19 pandemic will provide us the opportunity to push a reset button and design globalization, so it is fair to America.

Everything was well researched and well structured without any grammatical mistake. I truly enjoyed reading this book. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. Considering the purpose of the book there is nothing I disliked. Trade Crash is a book/video primer designed for business reader and general public. To make this book as accessible as possible, author has included links to a series of zoom seminars on COVID 19 and trade, a short film and interviews with a number of authors. I believe many people will enjoy reading this book and benefit from author’s insight.

Author says “The genie may be out of the bottle and it may just not be possible to put it back in. We need a plan. We as nation need to fix this”.
