Mordrak, a brave knight from Escavia, fights for King Tell in an attempt to unite all the lands and end the fighting between them. After winning the battle at Nan Enn, it is discovered that the land had been cursed by a wizard. King Tell was cursed and the wizard working for him was murdered. Mordrak also suffers from a curse and is haunted by youthful spirits. Fearing for the king’s and his own sanity, Mordrak accepts the quest of finding a wizard that is willing to help lift the curse and stop the evil wizard that started the madness. Adriselle, Mordrak’s sister and only remaining family member that he feels close to, longs for adventure. She chooses to accompany her brother on this dangerous and exciting quest.

Riven Calyx by Mark Leon Collins is a fictional story set in a mystical world inhabited by many different beings. The characters encounter wizards, elves, gnomes, ogres, and more in this action-packed adventure. The author used a lot of imagination and creativity to make this world and the characters in it. The characters and settings in the story are described with so much detail that the reader can easily visualize what is happening.

As a nerd, my favorite parts were the different mythical creatures, the battles, and the magic. I also appreciated how well written the characters’ emotion were. Mordrak’s fear, Jorlon’s anger, and the forbidden love of Adriselle were wonderfully described. The story took a while to really draw my attention. I wasn’t sure that I would enjoy it until the story started focusing more on Adriselle. I love strong female characters, and she really helped to add to the story.

I’m not sure if this book was professionally edited. There were some mistakes, such as missing spaces and not including one of the chapters in the table of contents. That distracted me a bit from the story, but I still liked it. That is why I am giving this book an overall rating of 3 out of 4.

There is very little profanity in this story. There are some sexual scenes, but the author doesn’t describe them in much detail. I think this would be a great book for teens and adults who enjoy mythical stories. If you enjoy creative stories with action, adventure, and forbidden love, then allow yourself to fall under the spell of this wonderful story.
