Review by CColony2019 -- Devil Among Us by Jack Winnick
Many Jewish people are killed and injured by terrorists pretending to be Jews when a synagogue in New York was bombed. This event has sparked an investigation by the FBI to find why terrorist that were considered friends would do this. The FBI agent on the case is Lara Edmond. Uri Levin is a Mossad field agent that worked with Lara before. Uri is recruited to help with the investigation. They have a good working relationship even though a few years ago, they had a romance. The investigation leads Lara and Uri to a university in Texas. While in Texas, they learn details about their case and find time to rekindle their romance.
Staunton Richardson’s job is to bring more people into a church in Texas, and so far, he has done a brilliant job. He has done so brilliantly that a man name Dale has offered him a new job. Staunton cannot refuse the amount of money that Dale is offering him, even though the job could lead him to harm many innocent people.
Will Lara and Uri be able to complete this investigation? Will Lara and Uri have a romance that will last past this investigation, or will it end when it is time for both to go back home? Will Staunton accept the job offer? Will Staunton do the right thing in the end?
Devil Among Us by Jack Winnick is filled with suspense and will keep you on the edge of your seat. I enjoyed how it kept bringing me back into the story with new details. The investigation kept the characters traveling and gave the reader a chance to come up with some conclusions of their own about what might happen. The only thing I did not care for was when the story switched to other characters. It made me feel like I was reading another book. Everything did tie in together, but while reading the book, it felt disjointed. Devil Among Us is the second book in the series, but the book can be read by itself. After reading the second book, I would like to read the first book in the series because of the storyline in the second book.
There were very few writing mistakes, and the ones there were did not take away from the story. While there is no cursing and no romantic scenes in the book, I would not recommend it for a younger audience. Because of the storyline, I believe Devil Among Us is more suited for adults. While there are different religions in the book, it is used to move the story along and as a motive, so people of any religion can enjoy this book. I will give this book a 4 out of 4 stars. The reasons I gave Devil Among Us 4 stars are it kept me on the edge of my seat, the writing mistakes took nothing away from the story, and even the parts that felt disjointed were written beautifully.
