Review by Zeix -- We are Voulhire: Someone Else's End
We Are Voulhire: Someone Else's End By Matthew Tysz is the third book of the series We are Voulhire. Casted in the historic powerful country of Voulhire.
After the events which took place in Virko the three friends Galen, Demetrius and Rowan have a hard time believing that the city is gone. But the reality is that Demetrius still feels guilty since it was his fault, and tries hard to talk with the new eiodi, but his efforts are in vain. And after some consideration, Galen thinks that it's best if they went to the capital, so that they could tell the king of what conspired. But the truth is that their arrival becomes disastrous to the point that their lives are threatened, but not only their lives but the lives of all the people in Voulhire's capital. So the question is are they the ones who brought evil and harm to the capital or maybe, they are just victims of circumstances?
What I liked about the book is the persistence of characters like Demetrius who didn't want to give up on Virko. The friendship and bond between the three friends who didn't leave each other behind at the time of calamities was remarkable. Moreover the people of Voulhire being concerned of the way those who lived in the princes lands survived was humanly of them. Again I liked that the book was interesting in every aspect, from the conspiracies to the magical events and the conflicts, it did not disappoint in entertaining.
What I did not like about the book is the naiveness of the king of Voulhire. How is it possible that the leader has two attempted murders on him, and he does nothing to increase his security after the first one. The way his child talks to him tells volumes, why he is not respected much by his people. When Galen goes to the banker to get money I felt like he was weak, since he was manipulated by the banker and also the barber to get what he didn't want, and he almost bought clothes which he didn't need. I found it upsetting when Galen did not tell the truth about the capital, when he was asked by the common men of Magnum Caelum, simply because his information might have helped them be ready for what was coming.
The book was well edited and I did not find any errors as well. Moreover it was interesting and it had strong characters who played their part well. I am rating the book 3 out of 4 stars because it was engaging. I am recommending the book to those who love drama, mystery, war and magic.
