In reading the book entitled "Inside Incest"by Madeline A. Garner, you genuinely get a sense of the pain and suffering that she went through growing up. From the beginning, she takes her time slowly opening a door to her life she has tried her hardest to avoid. Giving the reader a front-row seat into the most significant and upsetting part of her life. That for many years defined how she presented herself and interacted with others. Including, how it adversely affected the people she cared for the most. But, thankfully she was able to find and connect to people who saw through the facade she was trying to portray. Helping and showing her how to change her life, by confronting her past hurts and learning to forgive.

Which she begins to realize was what she has been needing to do for a long time, in order to start "feeling free" from the past wrongs of people she held dear to her heart. She knew and remembered how it felt to be happy and free from worry and pain. It was the same feeling she had of the maid that took care of her when she was younger. She began doing things such as, teaching herself assertiveness training to help her feel resilient give her confidence. Including learning to do "Body Code", giving her a way to finally start to release the pain and trauma she'd held onto for years. Which began to give her encouragement and hope that things could get better.

What I disliked most was the fact that she had to endure all of the pain and suffering on her own, with no help from her own family. The very ones she should have been able to get comfort from at a very dark and disturbing time in her life. It was this I thought about as I read her story trying to imaging the pain and hurt she endured. Because, she and had no one to talk with and console her, at this the most vulnerable time in her life.

In Conclusion, although this was a very hard subject to read I did enjoy it. Opening my eyes it gave me comfort knowing that she had the courage to "raise her voice" and get the help she needed. Showing others that may have been victims themselves that there truly is a light at the end of that very dark tunnel. Furthermore, I am rating this book 3 out of 4 stars, because although the author did have the book proofread multiple times, there was still one typographical that I came across. In addition, I love the fact that even due to the subject matter of this book the author was talking about, she made it a point not to going into graphic detail about the events that happened. That did not interfere in any way with me being able to understand the author's story.

I am recommending this book to be read by a more mature audience due to the subject matter of this book. Lastly,I see this book myself as a self-help book for anyone needing the encouraging words and along with some solutions that I believe will help you start to heal.
