Review by lala12j -- The Dark Web Murders by Brian O'Hare
Four victims with seemingly no connection with the only clues being the blog posts by the murderer. Can Chief Inspector Jim Sheehan and his team of detectives solve the mystery before it's too late? The Dark Web Murders is an intriguing, fast-paced mystery novel that will have you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. Read as Captain Sheehan and his team race to solve a series of murders and discover a connection between the victims. Meanwhile, the killer, self-named Nemein, has taken upon it himself to 'serve justice' to the guilty parties. Captain Sheehan may have been the only person that could contend with the intricate genius and diabolical plot of the antagonist. The story comes full circle with a captivating ending linking the prologue with the ending showing that what goes around does, inevitably, come around.
The book gets its namesake from Nemein posting his blog on the dark web depicting elaborate descriptions of the murders and his philosophical justifications of these gruesome acts. Due to his meticulous planning, the team of detectives is distracted with misleading evidence making it difficult to conclude the motive and narrow down their growing list of suspects.
Brian O'Hare brings his narration to life with the vivid details of the scene, accurate depiction of the crime scenes, forensics, psychological analyses, and portrayal of his main characters. Each one was different and essential development of the plot. For example, there is McNeill, with his stuttering but still respected and an expert in his field, or McBride proving himself invaluable in this investigation with his knowledge in legal terminology. I loved being able to read the perspective of the killer and the detectives without it interfering with the flow of the story. Readers will not be disappointed in this latest installation of the murder mysteries series.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and did not find anything to dislike about it. The plot was very engaging throughout and keeps you guessing how who the killer is. However, it is good to keep in mind that there are grotesque details in scenes as well as some profanity, which would be more appropriate for an adult audience with a penchant for mystery novels.
Overall, the editing of the book was efficient and it was beautifully written. The story has a realistic feel and is supplied with a variety of relatable characters. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars and look forward to reading other works of Brian O'Hare.
