Charlie Sheldon, the author of Strong Heart, brings forward an enchanting story about Sarah who is a youthful girl without a home. Tom, who is her grandfather, is oblivious of her existence. He lives alone and only knows about Sarah when she is abandoned at his front door. Tom had planned to embark on a trip, together with his friends, William and Myra. Their trip was to Tom’s grandfather’s grave, which was in the wilderness. He carries along an artifact made out of bone, from ancient American tribes. Tom has no otherwise but to go on the trip with Sarah.

Sarah asserts to have noticed a short-faced bear and abruptly vanishes, along with the artifact that Tom was supposed to bury with his grandfather, who died when he was younger. It is difficult for Tom and his friends to believe what Sarah alleged to have seen, given that the creature had been extinct for thousands of years. They, however, acknowledged that there were some unnatural circumstances surrounding her disappearance. Sarah is not found, until days later.

What I like the most about this novel is the flawless succession of occurrences and strategic placement of characters. I was able to connect with most characters, without a lot being explicated about their past. I also adore how the author adeptly apprises about native American culture. There was a very friendly approach to this culture, which tells us a lot about the author.

What I disliked the most is how the author dives way deep into Sarah’s mystery. This momentarily halts the original storyline and I do not see the gist of the detail that goes into this description. I was, however, able to reconnect with the storyline.
The book was exceptionally edited in my view given that I did not encounter errors. Whether this was because there were no errors or because I was so glued to the story, is in itself a good thing.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars mostly because I loved almost everything about it. Even though there was one thing I disliked about the book, there were countless other things that I loved about it.

I would highly recommend this book to all readers who love books with a good chronology of events and perfectly orchestrated plots. I do not recommend this book to readers who seek a straightforward narration of the chronology of events, since it has some twists and quite a long story within the main story.
