Relic is a Gandhi quoting desert recluse that is often called “The Desert Sasquatch." He is a man living in the canyonlands of the Colorado and Green Rivers. Ivan, Jebediah, and Barclay go around stealing to make a living and are rafting in the canyons looking for old Pueblo dwellings to find artifacts. Jebediah and Relic have a run-in that leads to Relic hunting the thieving threesome down to thwart them in anymore attempts to take what is not theirs. Brayden, Henry, and Dylan are on a white-water rafting excursion that brings them to the canyons. At their first campsite of the trip, they hike up to a waterfall-fed pond. At separate times, the three men venture up to the stream that feeds the waterfall. When Brayden finally makes it to the top, he discovers Henry looking over Dylan, discovering that Dylan is dead. To add to the mystery of Dylan's death, he is found holding a fistful of diamonds. Relic is perched above the canyon watches the scene. Jebediah and Ivan approach, Jebediah holding a gun. When Henry sees the men coming, he jumps, and this begins a chase. Relic also runs in an attempt to avoid discovery. Henry and Brayden separate, unintentionally running in different directions. At this point, Relic and Brayden collide, and after more running and hiding, the events of the day lead to a race to find the source of the diamonds. In the midst of it all, deals are made, relationships are tested, courage is found, and truths revealed.

Author A.W. Baldwin treats readers to a non-stop action-filled storyline that will have readers continually guessing what will happen next. There are many plotlines in this book that all eventually collide into a cohesive storyline.

I enjoyed Diamonds of Devil's Tail because the author used a plethora of descriptive words that really help the reader's imagination of the storyline come into view. I also enjoyed this book because the chapters were formatted so that each group of characters got opportunities to be the center focus. The chapters are small, but they pick-up and drop-off so that each character’s story begins to overlap with the other characters. These qualities and many others are what I like most about this book.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. The book appeared to be professionally edited. I did not have any dislikes about this book. I truly enjoyed the style of writing and the feeling of not wanting to put the book down.

There is a decent amount of profanity used in this book. There is violence, but it is not gory. I would recommend this book to readers who like a lot of action. This book does not fit into any one specific genre: it has crime, thrills, and mystery all combined into an action-packed novel.
