Imagine living in a world where humans and gods lived side by side, where the humans had no control over their lives, and only the will of the gods prevailed. The King Of May by Matthew Tysz is a fiction novel that takes us through such a scenario. The book is part of the series called The Turn and is the second installment.

The book is centered around Ashley, Scholar, Cattleprod, and King of May. First, we see Ashley and Scholar who are good friends on a mission to kill the gods for the betterment of humanity. The gods are seen as a threat to humanity as the had the ability to control different aspects of the environment. Cattleprod and King of May on the other hand are entangled in a fight for power and dominance. Ashley and Scholar are put in a predicament about who they will side with, in the battle for power and domination. To find out how the story further unfolds read more in The King Of May

The book had 216 pages containing 250 words per page. The storyline had a good flow from start to finish and a consistent build-up to where the reader was able to keep track of the scenes. The characters were well utilized in bringing out the various themes found within the book, themes such as war, power, politics, and friendship among others. What I personally liked most was the character development as the author brought out the characters in their full glory. The author's style of dialogue and humor also came in great effect in telling the story.

The book was not professionally edited as I was able to find some grammatical errors which were a dislike for me. Also, I disliked the fact the book had no chapters which made it difficult for me to keep track of where I was reading and the book is full of profane language which makes the book unsuitable for readers of all ages especially the younger ones. The book is suitable for readers of all religions as it is not biased towards any religion.

Therefore, I rate this book The King Of May by Matthew Tysz 2 out of 4 stars because of the following reasons, the book was full of grammatical errors and a lack of proper chapter indication. I would recommend this book for lovers of fiction and fantasy novel. However, it is not suitable for young readers due to the profane language used in some instances.
