Review by prowlingivy -- The Sins of a Master Race
The Sins of a Master Race is the third book in The Turn series. The book focuses on the situation after the turn. Human beings are trying to re-establish themselves and get some order back into their lives. They defeated the gods showing that even the gods had limits. Nonetheless, no god was created equal. In the hidden world of Anime Mea, the god Marat rules over the lost souls procured during the turn. He is populating the world with new races. Will these different species pose a threat to the humans? Will the gods be successful in winning over the world once again?
The Sins of a Master Race can also be read as a stand-alone novel. Mathew Tysz maintains his multiple narrators’ style giving this novel a classic nostalgic feel. The central theme of the novel is power. The two Defury cousins are at the center of desperate attempts at countering the reaches of it especially in the hands of Marat. They are determined to reduce Marat’s hold on the post-turn world regardless of the many innocent lives that would be lost. They are called arch demons for their unnatural capabilities.
The book is drenched in magic and mystery. The author leaves you enchanted and appalled at the same time. A beautiful model of love and loyalty. The war is still being fought despite the victory over the king of May and Oak. However, it’s a different kind of war, a war of overcoming traditional beliefs. The author has included his own example of PTSD. He clearly depicts the role of love and support in recoveries of war veterans. Ashley is still haunted by the losses experienced in Asher but his friend, Scholar, is overseeing his recovery from it. I love the characters best. They are an interesting blend between strong and soft. These human warriors are dangerous but so human you fall in love with them. There is nothing to dislike about the novel.
I would recommend it to science fiction fans. It is a must read for them. It would also appeal to anyone interested in post-world adventures. A great read for the hero worshippers. I suppose everyone will identify with one of these superstars. If you are an adventurous reader, don’t skip this. Grab a copy for yourself and some of your revolutionary friends. It is a book worth its salt and well-deserving of your time and attention. Warning, the violence is pretty graphic and therefore not for the fainthearted. For those who love the war memoirs, this one comes close to the real life thing. You should probably try it.
I rate it a 4 out of 4 stars. It is both well written and well edited. The book is captivating from the very beginning. It was hard to put down. That, for me, is a win. It also evokes a lot of emotions in me while I was still reading it. It is both thoughtful and intriguing. The best part of it all was that it causes me to reflect. It demands full attention and is delightful to the sense of imagination.
