Grace Revealed by Fred Sievert is an amazing book. Essentially, it is a collection of stories from people that went through extreme difficulties. The book covers topics like abuse, addictions, pain, career challenges, family issues, and loss. Each chapter starts with an introduction to the issue at hand, this part is very well researched, full of statistics and wise words. Then, each chapter contains a few personal testimonies from people that have gone through the trial being focused on. After, there are bible verses that relate to getting through a difficult time such as the ones the testimonies describe. At the end of each chapter, there are reflection questions for a lone reader or a study group to mull over. There is also a chapter at the end which summarizes the main points the author makes throughout the book.

What I liked most about this book was the deep dive into the real issues people struggle with. There was no hesitation to tell the real and whole truth about these people’s stories and I think that sheer honesty could help someone that would otherwise be unreachable. I also appreciated the organization of the different topics in each section. This organization allows the reader to explore the different avenues of the topic without getting confused or overwhelmed.

What I liked least about this book was the lack of follow up on the people whose testimonies were included. I would have loved to hear about how they’re doing now. With that said, most of the personal stories include the person’s name, unless they requested to be anonymous. Therefore, an interested reader could likely do their own research to fill this gap.

I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. It was extremely well organized and edited. Despite the fact that the topics do not all relate, the writing flowed naturally. This was surprising especially compared to other personal testimony books I’ve read, in which transitions are rough and the writing style is very factual. The stories included were moving and allow the reader to connect with the subject, while also reflecting on their own experiences. To be honest I cannot think of a reason to rate it any lower.

I would suggest this book for anyone that is struggling with or knows someone struggling with the issues discussed in this book. Though, an intimate knowledge or experience with one or more of these issues does not exclude someone from reading. People all around us are struggling with issues like abuse, addictions, pain, career challenges, family issues, and loss. The least we can do is educate ourselves on how they feel, and I think this book is a great resource for that. This book is applicable for a group study, or a single read.
