I really enjoyed this book, No Reprieve, by Inge-Lise Goss. I would give this book a 3 out of 4 stars. Overall it was a good book, now like any writing, it has room for improvement. The one big thing I really feel needs to change is throughout the book “The Institute” is capitalized. Institute is fine to be capitalized but even “The” before Institute is capitalized as well, which should not be unless at the beginning of a new sentence.

This book is about a girl that is a rebel on a secret mission to take down the Institute, and she is running the risk of running into an old flame that is an android working for the Institute. She tries hard to keep her identity hidden, but in the end, she is found out. She has to choose whether to run or to stay and be an inside agent while the rebels assume she is compromised. While dealing with this she also has to keep the android boyfriend believing that she is trustworthy and that she loves him.

I love the way that the story flows after she ends up back with the android Pellegrin. It feels to be so anxious and I constantly found myself not being able to stop reading it was grabbing and compelling. I love this feeling to the book, this is exactly what I love when reading. The thing that I did not really enjoy about this book is the rising action in the first chapters. Before Pellegrin brings Paislee back into his hold it is just too slow-moving and does not feel to fit the story. Especially where the pace picks up so quickly farther into the story.

These characters are amazing in this novel. I love how real and robotic they make Pellegrin. Especially being able to see the difference in Paislee’s humanity, and Pellegrin’s lacking in humanity. Having the robots in the novel was enticing, and the idea that they were taking over gave it a reality. Because we are constantly in the real world hearing how robots will eventually be in control.

This book could be a young adult book great for kids, but there are some sexual things that lead me to a more adult book. I would say that this book lays between these two groups of people depending on the person’s reading style and what they feel is appropriate. While teens will love this book because it follows dystopian novels, adults also enjoy these books as well and that is where this book fits into the literary world.
