We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is a magnificent fantasy novel. The medieval fantasy story is one of my favorite book's genre, and this novel certainly didn't disappoint me.

The story starts with a king who decides to send four of his son to a different island to rule. The island was beautiful until the civil war happens between the princes to claim the king's throne. The island becomes chaos and people were poor. The protagonist, Galen, who lived on that island is called to another island, Voulhire, to receive his inheritance from his uncle. Voulhire is a prosperous island but Galen never realizes that Voulhire is facing a great danger.

What I like the most from this book is the captivating opening part. The opening part really hypes up your expectation for this novel. The author even provides us a map of the Voulhire, which really helps us to visualize the region.

This novel has so many good points. Its paragraphs are neat so it's comfortable to read. The author's description of the scene is just amazing. The author also did a great job at build a systematic fantasy world. It has an accent on people, it has an economic system, magic, a clear background story, a status quo, and has an outstanding villain.

The part I don't like the most from this book is a constant changing of POV. This story didn't really give the protagonist a good development. It more focuses on other characters. The author didn't push the protagonist enough to be more involved in the conflict, he's just like a boy with culture shock hanging around a new place.

I rate this novel for 3 out of 4 stars. I found no grammatical errors and it has a great plot, this novel really deserves a good score. Sadly, I started this book with a big expectation but I feel like there's a lack of development. This book really ended up early when I think it has many opportunities to develop the protagonist more into the conflict, it could help the reader to understand the story better. So I reduced one star for it.

I would recommend this novel for everyone who loves a fantasy medieval story, but I think it could be enjoyable for most of the readers. You'll fall in love with this book. We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies is a first installment of the series, so it has another book to read. I kinda excited to read the rest of the series.
